Why Spring Water Tastes Better
Have you ever noticed how some water tastes better than others? Why does water even have a taste? Many people agree that spring water often tastes better than filtered water, ‘pure’ water, or reverse osmosis water…and there are several reasons why.
The primary difference lies in the source, the natural mineral content, and how each type of water is processed. Spring water comes directly from a natural underground source and is usually bottled at the source with minimal treatment. RAIN Pure Mountain Spring Water is bottled at the source, from our spring in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Northeast Georgia.
In contrast, filtered water typically starts as municipal tap water and is processed through filters like activated carbon or reverse osmosis systems to remove impurities. While this makes it safe and clean, it can also strip away elements and minerals that contribute to flavor.
Spring water typically contains a unique blend of naturally occurring minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which contribute to its crisp and refreshing taste.
These minerals not only enhance the flavor but also provide health benefits. Each spring has a slightly different mineral composition, which gives spring water a distinctive taste that many people find more pleasant and “alive” compared to the flat or neutral flavor of filtered water. Check out our website for a complete water analysis profile with mineral content, pH level, etc.
Filtered water, although clean and consistent, can sometimes taste bland or even slightly metallic, depending on the filtration method and the quality of the source water. For example, reverse osmosis systems remove nearly all dissolved solids, which also removes any character the water might have had. While this is ideal for people sensitive to certain contaminants or living in areas with poor-quality tap water, it often lacks the natural taste found in spring water. Filtered water can also pick up some taste profiles from the container it is packaged in. We’ve heard many times from customers that water in a box, carton or paper container, tastes like cardboard…not an ideal, premium experience.
Look at the bottled water choices next time you’re ready to buy one, and see how many are filtered or spring. We hope you’ll give RAIN a try, and taste the difference for yourself. We are available in a 16oz resealable, refillable aluminum bottle. Our website has a locator map where you can find us near you!
