Better Water Comes in a Can
The only way to get RAIN is from a can. You won't find it in a plastic bottle, a glass jar or a carton. We package RAIN in aluminum because it's Better For You and Better For The Planet. In fact, aluminum is recycled at over 6x the rate of plastic bottles and significantly better than aseptic (boxed) cartons, though the available data on the true recycling rate of aseptic cartons is very fragmented as the bulk is ground into pulp applications and generally downcycled.
RAIN also chose aluminum packaging because it protects the beverage (spring water) in our case, better than all other alternatives. Aluminum is opaque, unlike glass or PET (plastic). Sunlight contains powerful Ultraviolet rays, the same UVs that burned you to a crisp on spring break and the same UVs that made the paint on your car fade. Those UVs can and do impart negative flavors on bottled water. Think about the chemical taste you might remember after leaving a plastic bottle of water in your car. The opaque nature of aluminum bottles and cans means that those powerful UV rays do not penetrate the can and do not cause any changes to the water.
Aluminum bottles and cans are non-reactive and non-imparting. Take a mental inventory of all of the beverages that are packaged in aluminum; water, soda, juice, sports drinks, beer, bar-mixers, etc. The only similarity in these beverages: they are all liquid. The differences, however, are stark, some acidic, some basic, some carbonated, others still, some with alcohol and others without. Aluminum bottles and cans are one of the few materials that can stand up to everything without reacting, bursting or imparting a flavor. In the case of RAIN, we are bottling the cleanest, most sustainable spring water, it should not taste like the plastic bottle or box it came in.
Beyond those practical and sustainable benefits, there are a few conveniences that aluminum offers for water packaging. Aluminum cans and bottles get cold, fast. The miracle metal, aluminum, is extremely thermally conductive. Thousands of times more thermally conductive than plastic, glass or cartons. Put a bottle of RAIN in the fridge and only 20 minutes are needed before you enjoy that icy bev. Have an ice-chest at the beach, that wintery mix will cool the bottle in only a few minutes! On the topic of cold water, the neck on the bottle of RAIN is 38mm, almost two times that of a plastic bottle, feel free to drop your ice cubes or drink mix straight in.
RAIN aluminum bottles are light-weight and durable. In an ever-growing race to the bottom, plastic bottled water companies have made their bottles increasingly thin. So thin that if you squeeze too hard- water might shoot out of the top like a balloon. We wanted RAIN bottles to stand up to adventure. Take our bottles hiking, toss them in your gym bag, forget about a bottle in the backseat for a month. Yes, maybe a dent or two but still perfectly preserved spring water.
Finally, aluminum bottles are the only way you can purchase RAIN. Many of our plastic-bottled competitors have begun to offer aluminum bottles in an effort to demonstrate a commitment to plastic waste. For these companies, aluminum represents some very small fraction of their total bottling operations and packaging use. RAIN uses aluminum because it's the best thing, and the right thing. We found the best spring water in the world, sourced from a real rainforest deep in the Appalachian Mountains, bottling in aluminum means that you and the planet both get to enjoy.
